I am informed by the Garda authorities that the county of Meath is policed by the division of Louth-Meath and that five of the seven Garda districts within the Louth-Meath division are wholly or partially directly responsible for the policing of County Meath. The five Garda districts are as follows: Drogheda; Navan; Ashbourne; Kells and Trim.
I am also informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas that the number of Garda personnel, all ranks, assigned to Garda stations in County Meath – by district – as at January 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000 and at 8 November 2000 is as set out in the following tables. The Garda Commissioner is not generally in favour, for operational reasons, of releasing details of individual Garda station strengths in Garda districts and I share that concern.
