Vol. 526 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Advertising Policy.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

43 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the total amount spent by his Department in advertising with a newspaper group (details supplied) in 1998, 1999 and to date in 2000; the plans he has to review advertising policy having regard to the article on the Paralympics which he described as offensive and which was carried in a publication (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25947/00]

Advertising by the Department is targeted in the main at the general public. Policy on advertising is, accordingly, aimed at reaching the maximum relevant audience, and decisions in relation to the papers in which advertising is carried are made accordingly on a case by case basis.

All advertising is done through an advertising agency, and estimated expenditure by the Department on advertising with the newspaper group to which the Deputy refers is as follows:

£

1998

30,095.56

1999

9,155.30

2000 (to date)

12,916.83
