Vol. 526 No. 2

Written Answers. - Paralympic Games.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

44 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if there are any plans to honour the Irish team for their performance at the Paralympics in Sydney; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25946/00]

I put on record my pride and delight at the outstanding performance of the Irish Paralympic team in Sydney and to say what a pleasure it was to have the opportunity to meet the members of the team at Dublin Airport on their return home. In order to demonstrate our appreciation in more concrete terms, my Department and the Department of the Taoiseach are currently finalising arrangements for a joint reception to honour the achievements of both our paraolympians and our olympians. It is hoped to host this reception before Christmas.
