Vol. 526 No. 2

Written Answers. - Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

49 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he will bring the list of 25 most deprived urban and rural communities for targeted investment to Government, as promised in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25968/00]

Framework 111 of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness makes a commitment to tackle concentrations of deprivation through a targeted investment programme aimed at the 25 most disadvantaged urban and rural communities. My Department, in consultation with the social partners, is identifying the most deprived communities, using agreed objective criteria.

A process is also being devised, in consultation with the Department of the Environment and Local Government and the social partners, through which targeted investment can be delivered effectively to these areas. The finalised list of areas and details of the process through which the programme will be delivered will be submitted for Government approval in December 2000.
