Vol. 526 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

98 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the need to finance five to six full pages of advertisements in one Sunday newspaper by health boards to recruit specialists and staff in general; if he or his Department will insist that such advertisements be co-ordinated in order that money saved could remove at least one person from the waiting list; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26207/00]

Each health board is authorised to make its own arrangements for the recruitment of staff. However, it is recognised that, on occasion, economies may be achieved by health boards by co-ordinating their arrangements in this regard. My Department has asked the office for health management to look at the advertising arrangements for the health service to ensure co-ordination and effectiveness in this area.
