Question:

226 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance the current situation with regard to the implementation of flood relief schemes for Clonmel, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26481/00]

The Commissioners of Public Works, who presented a number of preliminary design options for alleviating flooding problems in Clonmel, County Tipperary, to the local authority for its consideration, are currently examining the feasibility of amended proposals in response to the requirement of the local authority. It is envisaged that the commissioners will be in a position to revert to the local authority with their consultant's report before Christmas in order to finalise scheme proposals.

227 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance the expected completion date for the commencement work on the flood relief scheme for Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26482/00]

The Commissioners of Public Works are currently in discussions with a contractor to undertake the scheme works on the river Suir, Carrick-on-Suir drainage scheme and expect to be in a position to place a contract in the coming weeks with a view to commencing works on site early in the new year.
