Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Prescribed Drugs.

Michael Ring

Question:

268 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if botulism injections are included as a prescribed drug under the medical card scheme; and if any person in the Western Health Board area has ever received this drug under the medical card scheme. [26588/00]

I presume the Deputy is referring to botulinum toxin. As this product is restricted to hospital or medical specialist use, it is not considered appropriate for inclusion in any of the community based schemes. The Western Health Board has confirmed that no person has ever received this drug under the medical card scheme.

Question No. 269 taken with Question No. 238.
