Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

Liam Aylward

Question:

298 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government in view of the fact that all documentation has been submitted to his Department by Kilkenny County Council for extension of the fire service at Kilkenny and Callan, when approval will issue. [26634/00]

I presume that the proposals referred to in the Deputy's question relate to Freshford and Callan fire stations.

Kilkenny County Council received approval in principle on 27 July 2000 for its proposals for the provision of extensions to Freshford and Callan fire stations. While it subsequently submitted design briefs for these projects, including schedules of the required accommodation, the council recommended the provision of new two bay replacement fire stations at these locations.

Following a request for additional information the council submitted preliminary plans and budget estimates on 17 October 2000 for the revised proposals. These are currently under examination in the Department and a reply will issue to the council as soon as possible.
