Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Traffic Fines.

Question:

377 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of people from outside this jurisdiction who have been prosecuted in counties Dublin and Louth over the past twelve months for the offence of speeding and other traffic offences; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26719/00]

I am informed by Garda authorities that, as a general rule, drivers from outside this jurisdiction are given ‘fine-on-the-spot' notices for breaches of the speeding regulations and other traffic offences to which the ‘fine-on-the-spot' system applies. Details of the number of tickets issued are not readily available, and would require a considerable amount of Garda time to compile.

I am further informed that the number of drivers from outside this jurisdiction prosecuted for speeding and other traffic offences is not readily available, and could only be ascertained by the use of a considerable amount of Garda time and resources.
