Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teacher Pay Scales.

Ivor Callely

Question:

390 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will outline teacher pay scales in second level schools; his views on whether such pay scales are severely depressed compared to other graduate entry level employment; the measures necessary to correct this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26271/00]

When the following pay scales and associated qualification allowances together with other conditions of service applying to teachers are considered together, the total remuneration and overall conditions of service of teachers remain competitive.

It should be noted that a teacher with the basic qualifications will commence on the third point of the scale and will also be paid the appropriate qualification allowances.
