Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

408 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals there are for suitable education in the mornings for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford now that he is having home tuition from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. four evenings per week; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26356/00]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers. My Department's inspectorate is actively pursuing the arrangement of a suitable school placement for the child in question. I understand that it is expected that a place will become available in the very near future.

Paul McGrath

Question:

409 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to parliamentary Question No. 403 of 17 October 2000, the inspectorate has reported on this individual case; and if any additional support has been provided for this student. [26359/00]

Paul McGrath

Question:

414 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason no assessment or additional resources has been provided to a school which was the subject of parliamentary Question No. 403 of 17 October 2000; and when a classroom assistant will be appointed to meet the needs of a particular student there. [26460/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 409 and 414 together.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has sanctioned 2.5 hours per week resource teaching support and ten hours per week special needs assistant support to cater for the special educational needs of the pupil in question.
