I have initiated the implementation of the first phase of development of an adult educational guidance service. Phase 1 of the project involves 11 projects. It started early this year and is aimed at supporting participants in the vocational training opportunities scheme, VTOS, adult literacy, adult and community education programmes. Phase 2 will begin at the start of 2001. The initiative is overseen by an advisory group which is led by the National Centre for Guidance in Education and includes participation from employer, trade union, education, FÁS, employment service-area partnership and community and voluntary sector interests.
