Vol. 526 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Denis Naughten

Question:

124 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve funding for St. Joseph's School for the Blind, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, to provide services and facilities for post-primary girls who are visually impaired and who currently have a limited service which is now threatened; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27150/00]

A planning group, established in January 1999, was asked to provide a report on a proposal for a national centre for education for the visually impaired.

I received the report of the planning group in September of this year. The group's report puts forward a comprehensive range of very significant proposals, including the issues referred to by the Deputy, and these are currently being considered in my Department.

Decisions regarding implementation of the planning group's recommendations will be taken when the report has been fully considered.
