Vol. 526 No. 5

Other Questions. - Departmental Agencies.

Willie Penrose

Question:

19 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the progress being made by the subcommittee overseeing the relocation of the Marine Institute to Galway; the discussions there have been with staff or union representatives; the total estimated cost of the relocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26932/00]

The subcommittee set up to oversee the relocation of the Marine Institute to Galway, consisting of representatives from the staff side and the official side, has had several meetings to date to discuss matters arising and to facilitate the process.

The issues involved in the relocation have been identified and the approach and process to be adopted have been agreed. It is the intention that the process will be managed according to the principles of partnership and will be progressed openly and constructively by management, unions and staff on the basis of full information to all sides.

The cost of relocating the Marine Institute has been estimated at £10 million.
