Vol. 526 No. 5

Written Answers. - Arts Funding.

David Stanton

Question:

100 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if an application has been received in her Department for funding towards the construction of a community centre in Cobh, County Cork; if so, the amount requested; the programme under which such funding might be made available; the total amount available to her Department under any such programme; if she will consider the application from Cobh in a favourable light; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27164/00]

The closing date for applications under ACCESS, arts and culture capital enhancement support scheme, was 31 October 2000. The total funding package for the scheme is £36 million over the period 2001-04. Over 170 applications for funding were received, including an application from Cobh (Great Island) Community Centre Ltd. This group is applying for a grant to refurbish a theatre in Cobh. The applications are going through a detailed assessment procedure at present. I expect to be in a position to announce details of funding decisions early in 2001.
