Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

87 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Finance if he will honour in full the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness commitment 1.1.5, in seeking to frame tax policy; and if he will poverty proof the budget tax package prior to budget day and make the results of the poverty proofing exercise available on budget day. [28073/00]

I assure the Deputy that the income tax provisions in the forthcoming budget will be poverty proofed having regard to the official guidelines on the matter and paragraph 1.1.5 of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.

Responsibility for poverty proofing of expenditure measures rests with spending Departments.

I do not propose to comment, at this stage, on the precise material which will be available on budget day.
