Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Price Inflation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

99 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the inflation rate as at 30 October in each year from 1997 to 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28129/00]

Inflation is measured at mid-month rather than at end month. The annual inflation rates, as measured by the consumer price index, each October for the period 1998-2000 are set out as follows:

October 19982.9%

October 19991.5%

October 20006.8%

Inflation was measured quarterly only in and prior to 1996. The inflation rate from mid-November 1996 to November 1997 was 1.6%.
