Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Enda Kenny

Question:

274 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has given consideration to the priorities submitted by Castlebar Urban District Council, County Mayo, for allocations under the specific improvement grants scheme for 2000; the amount sought in each case; if he has made a final decision in relation to each; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28242/00]

On 17 November 2000, Castlebar UDC submitted three projects totalling £3.44 million for consideration for funding under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme in 2001. These projects are the link road from Castle Street car park to Barrack Street, McHale Road and the link road from Old Westport Road to Castlebar Road.

These projects, together with all applications under the specific improvement grants scheme, are being considered in the Department, having regard to their compliance with the eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 2001.
I will announce details of the 2001 non-national road grant allocations, including allocations under the specific improvement grant scheme, early in the new year.
