The Iranian market for Irish beef was re-opened in late 1998 following difficult and protracted negotiations with the Iranian authorities. Difficulties relating to specific conditions of supply were resolved earlier this year. While the current requirements are for 24 month old animals, discussions have taken place with the Iranian authorities about increasing this to 36 months. Notwithstanding this, the market is currently open and Irish exporters are free to offer beef there. Offers have been made to supply under public tenders in recent months.
