Vol. 528 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

139 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of beds for kidney dialysis available at Cavan General Hospital at present; if there has been provision for extra places; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29844/00]

I wish to inform the Deputy that the provision of services at Cavan General Hospital is the statutory responsibility of the North Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

I have been advised by the board that there are currently six bays in operation for kidney dialysis at Cavan General Hospital with additional evening shifts being provided. The board has plans to expand the facility and intends to provide an additional three bays with the potential to accommodate up to 54 patients.
