Vol. 528 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Areas of Conservation.

Michael Ring

Question:

203 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when the examination by Dúchas of the appeal against the SAC/NHA of the Clew Bay area in County Mayo will be completed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29932/00]

The area under appeal is being examined by officials of my Department. I wish to assure the Deputy that the matter will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible; however, this is a highly technical decision which may take some time to arrive at. It is essential to ensure that land meeting the criteria of the EU Habitats Directive is not removed from a SAC in error.
