Vol. 528 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation Database.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

244 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress to date in completing a post-primary school accommodation database; if such a database exists for primary schools; if not, the plans he has to create one; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29977/00]

It is the intention to undertake an inventory of accommodation of all recognised primary and post-primary schools.

My Department is currently drawing up the tender documentation for the inventory and it is intended to place an advertisement in the Official Journal of the European Communities for the work as early as possible in 2001. While the exact timescale for the completion of the inventory will not be known until tenders have been assessed and a contract awarded, it is likely to take a considerable period of time to complete because of the number of school buildings involved and the detailed nature of the information to be placed on the database.
