Vol. 528 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

47 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of vacancies which currently exist in his Department under the following grades, clerical officer, executive officer, higher executive officer, staff officer; administrative officer, assistant principal, principal officer and assistant secretary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29705/00]

The number of vacancies in my department as at 1 November was 117, made up as follows: one assistant principal, 25 higher executive officers, 50 executive officers, 16 staff officers, 21 clerical officers-clerical officer programmers and four services officers. Arrangements are in train to fill these posts in the normal way.

There are no vacancies at principal officer or assistant secretary level.

The overall number of employees in my Department, taking account of job sharers, is in the region of 4,500 and it is inevitable therefore that at any particular time a number of posts are unfilled.
