Question:

119 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the Western Development Commission received its funding; the number of projects which are on hand; the number of projects which have been approved or refused funding; and the areas in which they are located. [29944/00]

A sum of £5 million for the western investment fund was provided in the Vote for my Department in 1999 and again this year. However, it was necessary to obtain the clearance of the EU Commission for the operation of the fund as a state aid. That case was made by my Department to the EU Commission last year and clearance was obtained this year from both the Competition Directorate General and the Agriculture Directorate General of the Commission. I expect to have clearance from the Fisheries Directorate General shortly.

I am advised by the Western Development Commission that the total number of applications for assistance from the western investment fund to date is 65. Of these, nine have been approved for assistance and the projects concerned are located in counties Clare, Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal. The number that have been refused funding or that are now inactive is 31.

The 2000 area aid application for the person named has now been fully processed with no outstanding errors, and the area for payment purposes has been determined at 42.68 hectares.

Payment of his entitlement under the 2000 cattle headage scheme will issue to the person named within the next seven days.

Question:

121 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive the remainder of his headage and premia payments for 1999 and 2000. [29946/00]

The 2000 area aid application for the person named has now been fully processed with no outstanding errors, and the area for payment purposes has been determined at 77.15 hectares.

Payment of his entitlement under the 2000 cattle headage scheme, amounting to £2,604.00, has now issued to him as has his advance payment of £3,360.49 under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme and his entitlement of £10 under the 2000 sheep headage scheme. The third instalment of the 2000 ewe premium scheme will become payable in February 2001.

The position regarding his applications under the 1999 cattle headage scheme and the 1999 suckler cow premium scheme, as stated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 305 of 7 November 2000, remains unchanged. The person named was paid his full entitlement of £30 under the 1999 sheep headage scheme on 15 December 1999. He was also paid his full entitlement under the 1999 ewe premium scheme; the first and second instalment totalling £645.00 issued to him on 16 December 1999 and the third instalment of £248.02 issued to him on 29 February 2000.
