Question:

192 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources his plans for the development and encouragement of e-government in 2001, and the amount of money included in his Department's Estimate for this purpose in 2001. [1559/01]

My Department has reviewed its existing plans to deliver information systems with a view to the development of e-government. The Department is preparing a public service strategy which will guide future decisions regarding the delivery of integrated services. This will also identify services suitable for access through the use of modern communications based on Internet technologies.

The Department is negotiating with the Department of Finance for funding of £1.025 million in 2001 which will enable work to commence on projects, the aim of which is to build integrated and secure electronic delivery systems for the products and services of the Department and its agencies.
