Question:

265 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of occasions on which hackers have attempted to breach his Department's e-mail security in the past 12 months; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2552/01]

I will take Questions Nos. 264 and 265 together.

The Department employs a range of security measures to counter potential risks to its IT infrastructure, including e-mail, which are reviewed on an ongoing basis. There are no actual or suspected incidents of this Department's files/information being accessed or targeted by computer hackers. In relation to protecting the Department's system against the introduction of viruses, records are available for the period dating back to last September. In that time, 193 virus infected e-mails have been blocked from entry onto the Department's system.
