Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Perry

Question:

364 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will ensure that a decision has been made regarding the 2000 suckler cow and cattle headage payment for a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1083/01]

The person named submitted an application under the 2000 suckler cow premium-cattle headage schemes on 2 May 2000. He applied for premium on 13 animals under the suckler cow premium scheme and 24 animals under the cattle headage scheme. An inspection was carried out on his herd on 27 June 2000 and at inspection two of the cows presented had lost their tags. The person named was informed on 12 July 2000 that as a result of the cows having lost their tags the animals would be deleted from the cattle headage and suckler cow premium claims and, in line with the terms and conditions of the schemes, payments on the remaining animals under the 2000 cattle headage scheme would be reduced by 18.18% and payments under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme would be reduced by 15.38%.

The person named appealed the decision on 27 July 2000 to the local office of my Department. He was informed of the result of the appeal on 31 July 2000. The appeal confirmed the decision to delete the animals from the cattle headage and suckler cow premium claims but removed the imposition of penalties.

The person named lodged a further appeal to the appeals unit of my Department on 21 August 2000. The appeal was unsuccessful. The decision of 31 July 2000 was confirmed and the person named was informed of the result of the appeal on 10 January 2001.

The person named will be paid all outstanding grants due to him under the 2000 cattle headage and suckler cow premium schemes shortly.

Question:

365 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 191 of 21 November 2000, he will state the progress that has been made on the appeal lodged in August 2000 by a person (details supplied); if a favourable decision was made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1084/01]

The herdowner lodged an appeal regarding his 2000 special beef premium application. The appeal was examined by the headage and premia appeals unit and he was informed on 4 December 2000 that the appeal was unsuccessful. The herdowner submitted further evidence in support of his appeal on 11 December 2000. This evidence is now being examined by the headage and premia appeals unit. The herdowner will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.
