Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

377 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the compensation available to REP scheme applicants who have commonage designated in NHA/SAC areas as compared to those with commonage not designated. [1309/01]

All commonages are classified as target areas under measure A of the REP scheme, which was known as supplementary measure A in the previous scheme, together with natural heritage areas – NHAs – special areas of conservation – SACs – and special protection areas – SPAs – Eligible lands in target areas all attract the same rates of payment as follows: £190.59 – 242 – per hectare up to and including the first 40 hectares; £18.90 – 24 – per hectare for areas over 40 hectares and up to and including 80 hectares and £14.18 (18) per hectare for areas over 80 hectares and up to a maximum of 120 hectares.

Before the introduction of supplementary measure A in 1999, SAC and SPA lands attracted a maximum payment of £147.27 (187) per hectare and this rate was payable on a maximum area of 40 hectares.
