Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

Michael Noonan

Question:

459 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Finance if he will rebate excise duty to small petroleum suppliers who had stock in hand on budget night; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30569/00]

As the Deputy is aware, I reduced the rates of excise duty on road diesel and unleaded petrol in the budget. The decrease in the rates took effect on and from 7 December 2000. All deliveries from authorised tax free warehouses for consumption after midnight on 6 December 2000 were, therefore, liable to duty at the post-budget rates. I have no plans to rebate excise duty paid by any petroleum supplier who took deliveries from such warehouses prior to budget night at the pre-budget rate.
