Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

469 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance when he will issue a statement on the decentralisation programme; if all difficulties with the unions have been resolved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1065/01]

Considerable work has been done on developing proposals in relation to a new programme of decentralisation and I expect that the Cabinet sub-committee on decentralisation will very shortly begin its consideration of the various issues involved. My Department has been engaged in discussions with the civil and public service staff unions since I announced my intention to introduce a new programme. These discussions will continue and I look forward to working closely with the unions in the implementation of the Government's decision.
