Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Horse Racing Ireland.

Michael Finucane

Question:

504 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Finance the reason there was no reference to the financial and legislative details and arrangements for Horse Racing Ireland, which is due to replace the Irish Horse Racing Association, in his Budget Statement. [2345/01]

Work is still in progress in the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, in consultation with my Department, on the preparation of the financial and legislative details of the proposed new arrangements for Horse Racing Ireland, on which broad agreement was reached last October. It is anticipated that detailed proposals in this regard will be submitted to Government shortly and, if approved, these new arrangements will then be legislated for in a new Bill. As there was no new development at that time, reference to this matter in my Budget Statement on 6 December 2000 did not arise.
