Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

569 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason operations were cancelled in Merlin Park Hospital, County Galway in the week of 20 November 2000 due to the lack of anaesthetists; the reason replacement anaesthetists could not be sourced; the steps being taken to prevent this situation recurring; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1236/01]

The provision of medical services in Merlin Park Regional Hospital, Galway is, in this instance, the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and reply to the Deputy directly.
