Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

John Perry

Question:

640 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children when a health centre will be built in Skreen, County Sligo; the discussions he has had on the provision of this facility; the amount of funding that will be allocated in this regard; the time scale for the development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1636/01]

The provision of health centres in County Sligo is, in the first instance, a matter for the North Western Health Board. In drawing up its national development plan programme the North Western Health Board identified Skreen among its priority projects for development and allocated £250,000 to the project.

In light of the foregoing, the North Western Health Board has advised me that tenders have been received for the development at Skreen and that it is expected that construction will commence shortly and should be completed by the end of March 2002. The balance of costs will be secured from the disposal of the existing health centre premises and a local community contribution.

Question:

641 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress he has made on the provision of a health centre in Geevagh, County Sligo; when he will give the necessary authorisation to this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1637/01]

The provision of health centres in County Sligo is, in the first instance, a matter for the North Western Health Board. I have been advised by that board that refurbishment works have recently been carried out on the existing health centre at Geevagh. I have also been advised that the replacement of this health centre has been included in the board's national development plan programme but in view of other priorities within the programme it is not expected that this will progress in the immediate future.
