Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Electronic Government.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

900 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs his plans for the development and encouragement of e-government in 2001, and the amount of money included in his Department's Estimate for this purpose in 2001. [1567/01]

An e-government strategy is in the course of preparation as part of my Department's response to the modernisation programme under the Government's strategic management initiative and the information society action plan. This strategy will encompass a number of major initiatives already approved and in progress, including the REACH project, the modernisation of the general registers office, a new service delivery model for the Department and a project under development by Comhairle to provide on-line access to information – OASIS project. These plans, and other initiatives relating to e-government, will require funding of the order of £21 million during 2001 and provision has been made in the estimates of my Department to cover these costs.
