Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Compensation Payments.

John Perry

Question:

957 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim and waive all reduction of his ewe supplementary measure stock reduction compensation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1638/01]

I am advised that the correct payment was made in respect of the year 2000. Unfortunately, the person involved was overpaid in 1999. Based on the information supplied by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, the overpayment amounted to £429. It arose from the fact that although this individual had a permanent quota of one hundred and sixty six in 1998, and was paid on this basis, in fact he only claimed for one hundred and fifty ewes. Compensation for his losses should have been based on this lower figure. I am considering how best to deal with the over-payment in this case.
