975 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his intentions in relation to the issue of parity of pensions for members of the Garda Sochána who retired prior to 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1527/01]
The issue of the consequences for Garda pensioners of the pensionability of allowances was one on which the Commission on Public Service Pensions indicated in its interim report that it had received submissions.
The position is that my colleague, the Minister for Finance recently received the Final Report of the Commission on Public Service Pensions. The Government intends to publish the report and, once it has had an opportunity to consider the report in detail, to make formal decisions on the commission's recommendations, including any related to this issue.
