Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Reports.

Bernard Allen

Question:

1017 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason references to road conditions and road surfaces are eliminated from garda reports in the case of traffic accidents. [1411/01]

I have been assured by the Garda authorities that references to road conditions and road surfaces are included in Garda reports on road traffic accidents. Specifically, the Garda form used to record details of road accidents, the form C(T) 68, contains sections dealing with road type, road character, road markings and weather-surface conditions. These and other possible relevant details are included in investigation files and reports on traffic accidents.

In addition, the Garda supply details of all road accidents reported to them on form C(T) 68 to the National Roads Authority, and a detailed report on road accidents entitled "Road Accident Facts" is prepared and published by that authority. The most recent report is in respect of 1999.
