Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

1032 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the fraud squad were ever asked to investigate a company (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1644/01]

I am informed by Garda authorities that in October 1995, a complaint was received by the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation from the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht, and the Islands concerning the second company named by the Deputy. No complaint has been received in relation to the first company named in the question.

I am further informed that this matter was investigated by the bureau, in the course of which extensive inquiries were made with the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, and also the Revenue Commissioners. To date, the investigation has failed to uncover individual parties willing to make a complaint in respect of their investment in the project. I understand that, in the absence of complaints from these individual investors, the matter cannot progress further at this time.
