Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Pat Carey

Question:

1134 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to discussions with the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands in relation to the development plans for the upgrading of a school (details supplied) in Dublin 7; if, in view of the opposition of Dúchas to the plans submitted by his Department, he will facilitate discussions between his Department and the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to progress appropriate plans at an early date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30510/00]

Initial plans for the school, drawn up by my Department, were discussed with Dúchas and it has been agreed that other design options will have to be explored to provide the necessary accommodation for the school. In this regard, the school has been advised to appoint a consultant architect to draw up a feasibility study on the most effective use of the limited site space available. The study will be carried out in consultation with Dúchas and the school authorities.
