Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental E-mail System.

Seán Haughey

Question:

1143 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science the e-mail address to which members of the public should send queries relating to his Department; if his Department routinely replies to e-mails sent by the public; the timescale for such responses; if e-mail inquiries addressed to officials in his Department are also processed within that timescale; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1061/01]

A substantial proportion of the correspondence to officials in my Department is from school and college authorities, advisory bodies, other Government Departments and those involved in the delivery of education services rather than from members of the public. Queries from the public can be addressed to the webmaster@educ.irlgov.ie where they will be dealt with by the communications unit in the Department. Every effort is made to ensure that general queries are responded to on a same day basis. However, for more complex issues involving other sections in the Department, an acknowledgement is sent and the sections concerned are asked to reply directly to the e-mail contact.
