Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Higher Education Scholarships.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

1231 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) was refused a scholarship which had been promised by University College Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1940/01]

My Department understands that the scholarship, to which the Deputy refers, is an entrance scholarship, based on results obtained in the leaving certificate examination, which is awarded to successful applicants, subject to certain conditions, by the National University of Ireland, Galway.

From inquiries made by my Department, it appears that the applicant in question did not fulfil all the relevant conditions. As the scholarship is an internal scholarship awarded by the university, further queries on the matter should be directed to the appropriate college authorities.
