Vol. 529 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports and Recreational Partnerships.

Michael Bell

Question:

73 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when it is intended to establish the sports and recreational partnerships promised in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2393/01]

The creation of local partnerships as envisaged by Government and the social partners in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness has now been incorporated by the Irish Sports Council in its Statement of Strategy, 2002-2002. This sets out the pathway which will be followed by the council in the creation of such partnerships as a means of creating sustainable sports development infrastructure at local level.

I understand that consultations with various potential key players are now completed and that the council has advertised for declarations of interest from local statutory agencies to be considered as part of a pilot process. The closing date for submissions is 14 February and the council expects to have a number of pilot projects in place during 2001.

Question No. 74 answered with Question No. 69.
