Vol. 529 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

50 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will select a suitable site and provide funding for the construction of a new Gaelscoil in Bantry, County Cork to accommodate the 148 pupils now on the school roll. [2790/01]

My Department is currently assessing the long-term enrolment projections for the school in question and when this assessment has been completed, the matter will be progressed further.

The timing of the acquisition of a suitable site will depend on a number of factors including the outcome of the projection assessment, the volume and urgency of other applications on hands and the level of funding available to my Department for site acquisition and other capital purposes.

Every effort will be made to ensure that there will be no avoidable delays in dealing with the matter.
