Vol. 529 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cromien Report.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

76 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science his response to the Cromien report on the operation of his Department; and the actions he will take on foot of this report. [2780/01]

I welcome Mr. Cromien's report on my Department's operations, systems and staffing needs. I initiated the review with a view to ensuring the most effective functioning of my Department in the interests of the Irish education system as a whole.

Mr. Cromien's review reflects very clearly and starkly the difficulties faced by my Department in delivering quality services in a highly challenging environment. The report makes concrete and wide ranging recommendations for improving this position. I intend to pursue this proposed agenda for change as a matter of high priority.

Immediately upon obtaining this report I established a high level task force within my Department and I expect to receive a blueprint for implementation within a matter of weeks. Following this I will be in a position to bring proposals for significant structural and service delivery reforms to Cabinet.
