Question:

102 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will consider making a substantial allocation of the 11 million gallons of milk to be allocated to Ireland for distribution on 1 April 2001 to development farmers who were denied their rights in the 1983-84 period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2871/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 101 and 102 together.

I have had no meetings with the Milk Rights Group since the issue was debated in the Dáil in November of last year. I have outlined my position in relation to the Milk Rights Group in Dáil Éireann on numerous occasions.

The position is that no provision has been made in respect of any persons or group of persons who are not party to the proceedings in the Duff case and other associated cases. I have received legal advice to the effect that any proceedings that may be initiated by such persons are barred by the passage of time.
