Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

162 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the extent to which the number of gardaí has been increased in each garda division in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3372/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel to individual areas that the manpower strength, all ranks, of each operational Garda division as at 1 January for each of the last five years is as set out hereunder.

It should be noted that in 1997 DMA west was formed from part of both DMA north and DMA south.
The manpower figure for DMA south central for 1 January 1997 includes personnel attached to DMA traffic unit and DMA office.
