Vol. 530 No. 1

Written Answers. - UNESCO Funding.

John Gormley

Question:

178 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department allocated any money towards UNESCO's International Year for the Culture of Peace in 2000; and the way in which this money was spent. [3327/01]

The purpose of the financial provision approved annually by the Oireachtas for UNESCO business is to pay Ireland's annual contribution to UNESCO. My Department's contribution to UNESCO in 2000, including payments to sub-agencies, was £619,853. While no specific additional budget was allocated for the promotion of the International Year for the Culture of Peace, funding of £5,000 was provided for a small project aimed at the approximately 6,500 registered blind and partially-sighted people in Ireland, as a contribution to the UNESCO International Year for the Culture of Peace.

Question No. 179 answered with Question No. 173.
