54 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the assertion by the Union of Students in Ireland that international students from non-EU countries studying here should be afforded the same rights to work as can be availed of by Irish and other European Union students attending third-level colleges here; and if he proposes to introduce any legislative changes to address this issue. I propose to take Questions Nos. 54, 98 and 151 together.

My Department is currently examining the issues surrounding the proposal that non-EEA national students be allowed to take up casual employment while engaged in a course of studies here. The submission received from the Union of Students in Ireland is one of a number of representations which are being taken into account in this regard.
