Vol. 530 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fishermen's Compensation.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

103 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the arrangements which have been made to organise a meeting between Bord Iascaigh Mhara and mussel fishermen in Castlemaine Harbour, County Kerry, to clarify their position with regard to compensation, following difficulties experienced and loss of income as a result of the prolonged closure of Castlemaine Harbour; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3337/01]

At my request BIM has already been in contact with Castlemaine mussel fishermen and a meeting has been arranged for 13 February next to discuss the impact of prolonged closures due to biotoxins and seed losses due to storms and to review the scope, within available funding and Community State aid rules, to alleviate these difficulties.
