Vol. 530 No. 5

Written Answers. - Exotic Animals.

Noel Ahern

Question:

132 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans he has to introduce legislation on the growing problem of holding, care and registration of exotic pets; if draft legislation as submitted by the DSPCA some time ago has been considered; his views on whether such legislation is necessary; when it will be introduced. [4354/01]

My Department does not have responsibility for this issue. I refer the Deputy to the reply of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development to Questions Nos. 348, 354, 361 and 442 of 30 January 2001, in which he referred to the inter-departmental group set up by his Department to examine issues relating to dangerous and exotic animals in this country.
